We are thrilled to announce that MPC were honoured with an impressive two Lions over the weekend at Cannes, including the only VFX Gold Lion for a second year running. John Lewis, ‘Monty’s Christmas’ was the big winner of the Film Craft category, collecting the overall Grand Prix and the only VFX Gold Lion of the festival.
The MPC VFX team spent five months lovingly crafting Monty the Adelie penguin, in photo-real 3D before integrating him into the in-camera environments helping to create the heart-warming Christmas story. The spot was directed by Blink’s Dougal Wilson and conceived by adam&eveDDB.
Global MD for Advertising Graham Bird said, “We are incredibly proud to be an integral part of the most watched and talked about campaign of the last 12 months, alongside our friends and collaborators Dougal Wilson and adam&eveDDB. It is truly an honour to have our work acknowledged by the Cannes jury at the very highest level.“
In addition, we are pleased to announce that we have also collected a Bronze Lion in VFX, for the animated T-shirt tale Ikea ‘T-shirts’. Directed again by Dougal Wilson, and conceived by agency Mother, the spot follows the unexpected story of a ‘flock’ of T-shirts searching for their home.
MPC collaborated on a total of 16 of the winning Film Craft spots, including Ikea ‘Beds’ which won Silver in Cinematography for MJZ. Lurpak 'Freestyle' was awarded Silver in Editing, Bronze in Direction and Bronze for Cinematography.
Intel + Dell, ‘What Lives Inside’ episodes 1-4 collected Bronze in Direction, while the same campaign won Silver for casting, awarded to agency Pereira & O’Dell.
A huge congratulations to everyone involved in the winning campaigns, and all the other winners at the Cannes Lions festival.
